Some members of parliament are receiving backlash after they were seen at Shenseea’s album launch mask-less.
Health Minister, Dr. Christopher Tufton, Deputy Prime Minister Dr Horace Chang, Finance Minister Dr. Nigel Clarke, Entertainment Minister Olivia Grange, Minister without Portfolio Floyd Green, State Minister Alando Terrelonge and Opposition Spokesperson on Foreign Affairs, Lisa Hanna were all present at the event.
Social media users chided the ministers for flouting the DRMA law. “It’s a crime to be poor.” one person said. Another user said “I will never forget the images of Jamaican people being thrown into the backs of military vehicles as they left the beach. Never!!!”
Some questioned whether the organizers had a permit for the event. “Yooooo me wouldn’t surprise if Romeich did have a permit,” said one concerned users, while another said, “How you invite every Govt Minister and nahave a permit?????? Babsy a go say is a National Event them no permit.”
According to reports, it is said that a permit was not given for the event. Senior Superintendent Marlon Nesbeth, commander of the St Andrew Central Police Division, within area of the venue, shared with local media that he did not grant permission for the event.
The event prompted persons to assume that the government will soon further relax covid-19 containment measures and reopen the entertainment sector. “Bro no one cares just fly the gate and let out the ppl dem!” said one social media user.
