Jamaica is saturated with talent within the Cultural & Creative Industries, from music, to dance, to theatre, to art.

But one section that often gets overlooked is the fashion industry, especially the designers.

One young fashion designer currently making waves in the local scene is CEO and Creative Director of Tribe Nine Studios, Troy Williamson.

In an interview with the Z, Troy about his gender-less clothing brand, living in New York and London, then returning home to Jamaica.

Troy started by telling us a little bit about who he is.

He explains that fashion has always been a part of his household and that he felt that now was his time to pivot into the fashion industry.

Troy highlighted how his hometown, Denham Town played a role in his rediscovery of Jamaica.

The designer also stated that he moved the location of his studio because he wants to make the Tribe Nine Studio a functional studio for children from Denham Town to be exposed to new skills and employment options.

Troy further explained that he believes the Jamaican fashion industry is a community, not an industry.
