JCF says serious and violent crimes down despite high figures in some divisions

The country continues to see a downward trend in serious and violent crimes despite some Police divisions reporting higher figures this year than those recorded up to March 9 last year.

According to the latest figures issued by the Jamaica Constabulary Force, murders, shootings, rape and aggravated assault are all down.

With 246 murders recorded up to Saturday, there was a 12.5% reduction over 2018. Shootings also saw a 2.8% decrease, rape is down 40% and aggravated assault, 18.6%.

However, among the division seeing an increase in murders are St. Catherine South, St. James, St. Andrew Central, Kingston Central, Westmoreland and Manchester.
