R&B singer and recent Superbowl Halftime Show headliner, Usher, revealed that he proposed to his ex-girlfriend Chilli and was disappointed when she turned it down.

Usher opened up about his feelings to People Magazine and confessed how heartbroken he felt after their split in 2004.

Usher and Chilli dated from 2001 to 2004 and were considered match made in heaven at that time, as not only were they great musicians, but they were extremely “cute together.”

The “Ruin” singer reflected on his admiration for her, stating that he had her poster on the wall and told himself that he would meet her one day.

The iconic singer mentioned that during their relationship, he wanted things to be more serious. However, Chilli did not believe that he was in love with her as much as he said.

He further explained that the TLC member had specific rules that didn’t work for him and that he wanted her to be there with him, but she couldn’t. He proposed to her, to which she said no. He then revealed that that caused him a great deal of pain, which then affected his other relationships as he did not trust women.

Chilli, in a previous interview with People, admitted that Usher had hurt her as well, and though they looked great together, he couldn’t be the way she wanted him to be with her.

Usher then admitted that they remained “cool” after their breakup and that it is always “light” when they see each other.

The “Let It Burn” singer got married to his longtime girlfriend Jennifer Goicoechea in Las Vegas over the weekend.
