Actress Zendaya is setting the record straight, well, umm, kind of... about rumours that she secretly married her longtime partner and co-star Tom Holland.
Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on March 16, the actress addressed a wave of AI-generated images circulating online that falsely claimed to show the couple’s wedding ceremony. Zendaya revealed that the fake photos fooled not only her fans but also people in her personal life.
“People were like, ‘Oh my god, your wedding photos are gorgeous,’” she said, explaining she had to tell them the images were AI-generated and completely fake. Some acquaintances were even confused about why they hadn’t been invited to the supposed wedding.
The rumours gained even more traction recently when celebrity stylist Law Roach jokingly suggested during a red carpet interview that “the wedding has already happened.”
Instead of giving a direct answer about her relationship status, Zendaya leaned into the humour. She showed the audience a clip she claimed would “clear the confusion,” which turned out to be a scene from her upcoming film, The Drama, with Holland’s face awkwardly edited over that of co-star Robert Pattinson.
“That was real,” she joked. “I was there.”
The upcoming A24 film, which also stars Alana Haim and Mamoudou Athie, hits theatres April 3.
