Vybz Kartel made his long-awaited U.S. return with two sold-out shows at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on April 11 and 12, his first American performances in 20 years, following the overturning of his murder conviction last year.
The dancehall icon became the first artiste from the genre to sell out Barclays twice, drawing a total of 38,000 fans.
Night one featured high-energy sets from Dyani, Jah Vinci, Rvssian, Blak Ryno, Busta Rhymes, and Spice, while stars like Elephant Man, Buju Banton, Dexta Daps, Stefflon Don, and Cardi B packed the audience.
Cardi B said that she had never seen the Barclays “this packed”.
Night two added even more surprises, including Lil’ Kim, Fabolous, Neyo, YG Marley, Kraff, Chronic Law, Kranium, Ishawna, Skillibeng, Shenseea, and Moliy, with Popcaan joining in via FaceTime.
Kartel is now set for Reggae Sumfest in Montego Bay this July, and fans are speculating about a possible Ghana appearance after his recent onstage link-up with rising star Moliy.
