Yesterday (January 15), DJ Akademiks released his almost 2-hour-long sit-down interview with dancehall icon Vybz Kartel.
During the interview, Vybz Kartel spoke about his time behind bars, Kartel’s musical influence, his stance with the K Dot and Drizzy beef, the anticipation of Freedom Street, and a host of other things, but there’s one subject line that stood out throughout the interview: Alkaline.
During the chit-chat session, Kartel stated that he was not a fan of Alkaline, even though fans considered Alkaline the “Vybz Kartel” of his era.
The “Fever” artiste also expressed his belief that the “Vendetta” artiste copied his style, reiterating that though he is not a fan, he thinks Alkaline is “aight.”
At one point during the interview, Akademiks queries if the likes of Alkaline would be on Freedom Street, to which Kartel responded, “Umm, what time does hell freeze over?”.
Kartel then went on to state that he didn’t need props from the “Extra Lesson” singer and thought that it was quite obvious that the Detta Boss was ‘biting his style, image, and persona.’
He then went on to speak on his evident influence on the Dancehall culture, including Alkaline, who started out with being controversial, something that Kartel has been known for throughout his tenure.
The Detta fans didn’t like this; several fans disagreed with the stance, stating that Alkaline is “in his own lane.”
