UWI Pelican Nest Rallying Support For Hurricane Melissa Victims Through Volunteerism

Shereen Richards, Student Services & Development Manager for the The George Alleyne Hall at the University Of the West Indies, and manager for community outreach & volunteerism, says the university has responded to assist students affected by hurricane Melissa.

Ms. Richards says efforts have been to reach remote areas cut off due to damages sustained across various communities in the Western end of the island.

Hurricane Melissa slammed into Jamaica as at Category 5 storm, damaging infrastructure, and cutting off power and water supply.

Richards says members of the university community have been volunteering their time and energy to assist with recovery efforts.

Numerous universiy students have been out of reach across the affected areas since the storm ravaged the island.
