US Supreme Court Allows Vermont Lawsuit Against Meta Over Instagram to Proceed

Share

The United States Supreme Court has rejected Meta’s bid to block a lawsuit from Vermont over claims its Instagram app is addictive to young users.

The case, brought by Vermont’s attorney general, will now proceed in lower courts. It alleges that Meta Platforms designed Instagram to target teens and encourage compulsive use.

Meta argued the case should be dismissed, saying it should not be tried in Vermont, but the court declined to hear the appeal.

The decision adds to growing legal pressure on social media companies over child and teen safety concerns.
