US Congressman Eric Swalwell has withdrawn from the California governor’s race amid growing pressure linked to sexual misconduct allegations.
He has been accused by four women of misconduct, including claims ranging from harassment to rape, which he denies.
Swalwell announced on X that he is suspending his campaign and apologised for past “mistakes in judgment,” while saying he will fight the allegations personally.
His exit comes just weeks before ballots are mailed for the election to replace outgoing Governor Gavin Newsom.
