The Urban Development Corporation UDC will, for the first time, expand its annual New Year’s Eve fireworks display to five parishes, providing Jamaicans in Western Jamaica with a moment of joy and reflection, following the impact of Hurricane Melissa.
In addition to the traditional celebrations in Downtown Kingston, Ocho Rios, and Harmony Beach Park in Montego Bay, fireworks will also light up Black River, St. Elizabeth, and Long Bay Beach, Negril.
The UDC in a statement said the expansion is designed to give more families access to a meaningful end-of-year experience, as the nation continues its path toward recovery.
It said while this year’s celebrations will adopt a more modest approach, the Corporation continues to create opportunities for joy, reflection, and community spirit, as the country looks toward 2026, with hope.
The UDC also noted that the wider staging of the annual fireworks, provides Jamaicans with a moment to reconnect with one another, especially following a challenging period for many households.
