Ride-sharing company Uber yesterday announced it is offering local healthcare workers a 50 per cent discount on its rides starting today until July 22.

In a company statement, Uber said the initiative dubbed ‘Uber Medics’, is aimed at rewarding the frontline workers for the sacrifices they have made during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Healthcare workers at 11 hospitals or health centres in Kingston and St Andrew, and St Catherine will be eligible.

The announcement came as Cabinet was to discuss Uber’s arrival on the island and state the government’s position on the matter.
