Tufton Wants Better Care And Compassion In Public Health Sector

Share

Health and Wellness Minister Dr Christopher Tufton has reiterated concerns about the level of care and compassion provided to patients, particularly those in distress, within Jamaica’s public health system.

The minister’s comments came in light of the tragic death of 14-year-old Anna-Shay Campbell, who passed away during a complicated childbirth at Spanish Town Hospital last week.

Media reports indicate that Anna-Shay’s mother has accused hospital staff of negligence, recounting that her daughter endured a prolonged and difficult labour.

Speaking on Wednesday during a tour of the Spanish Town Hospital, Tufton expressed deep sympathy for Anna-Shay’s grieving family.

The incident has reignited public concerns over the quality of maternal care in the public health sector, prompting calls for accountability and improvements to ensure patients receive timely, compassionate treatment.
