Share

A TROPICAL STORM WARNING continues to be in effect for Jamaica as the Area of Low Pressure over the west-central Caribbean Sea continues to become better organized, and has the potential to develop into a tropical cyclone by Monday morning. This means that tropical storm conditions pose a possible threat to Jamaica within 36 hours.

The Disturbance is currently drifting slowly, but is expected to soon begin moving toward the north.

A turn to the northwest is expected to occur tomorrow and continue for the next few days.

On the forecast track, the centre of the system is expected to continue moving towards Jamaica tonight and, be near Jamaica by late Monday evening, and near or over the Cayman Islands Tuesday and Wednesday.

While the system is in the vicinity of Jamaica, it is expected to produce locally heavy rainfall and strong, gusty winds, primarily over eastern and southern parishes tomorrow and Tuesday.

Landslides should also be anticipated in vulnerable sections of the island.

All small craft operators including fishers from the cays and banks should be arriving in port to start preparations for safe harbour.
