A weather system, dubbed potential Tropical Cyclone One, which developed close to Cuba, is being closely monitored, as it threatens to bring heavy rain and flooding over the weekend.
The Met Office said at 4:00 p.m., the center of the system was located near latitude 21.4 degrees north, and longitude 87.5 degrees west.
The system is moving toward the north near 7 kilometres per hour.
This motion is expected to continue tonight.
A turn toward the north-east is expected on Friday, and a faster motion toward the north-east is expected Friday night and Saturday.
On the forecast track, the system should move across the south eastern Gulf of Mexico through Friday night, and then move across the southern and central portions of the Florida Peninsula on Saturday.
Maximum sustained winds are near 55 kilometres per hour with higher gusts.
Some slight strengthening will be possible during the next couple of days.
The system is expected to become a tropical depression on Friday and a tropical storm late Friday night.
Potential Tropical Cyclone one is not a threat to Jamaica.
