Transport Minister Daryl Vaz has called on motorists to service their vehicles regularly, stressing that they bear responsibility for every life on board.
The Minister also urged all road users to recommit to safe driving practices.
His statement follows Wednesday’s fatal crash on the East-West Toll Road / PJ Patterson Highway in St. Catherine, where a Toyota Hiace bus veered off the road and crashed into a ditch.
Five people lost their lives, and several others were hospitalized.
Expressing condolences to the families of the victims, Minister Vaz warned that the tragedy highlights the urgent need for caution and responsible behavior on the nation’s roads, particularly during the busy Christmas season. He noted that even a minor mechanical failure or brief lapse in attention can have devastating consequences.
