The three police officers convicted in relation to the death of Mario Deane were given suspended sentences by the Westmoreland Circuit Court yesterday.
And while the ruling has left Deane’s mother disappointed, it has not barred her from her quest for justice, as she plans to sue the government next.
Constables Juliana Clevon and Marlon Grant, as well as Corporal Elaine Stewart had been found guilty of manslaughter, misconduct in a public office and attempting to pervert the course of justice.
The cops were reportedly on duty at the Barnett Street Police Lock-Up in St. James when Deane was arrested on ganja-related charges then beaten by other detainees in August 2014.
Deane later died at hospital.
