Vybz Kartel sought out to bring back Jamaica's iconic club culture with the inaugural staging of The Return of the Building, his response to dancehall fans mourning the mis 2000's club hot spot.
The event, held on Saturday at the national arena pulled hundreds of patrons to the Kingston venue including stars like former sprinter Usain Bolt, producer and artiste Shawn Storm and artistes Harry Toddler, Pamputtae and Ishawna spotted in the crowd.
Kartel himself took the mic throughout the night, performing tracks including “Wah Dat Fah,” while Boom Boom brought out Future Fambo and newcomer SheenWrks for “Give Thanks.”
The night leaned heavily into the energy of Kartel’s Asylum days, with selectors, dancers and artistes recreating that classic dancehall club experience.
According to Kartel this is just the beginning, with plans apparently underway to take The Return on the road, with Montego Bay and Mandeville among the possible stops.
