Fashion critics and fans have just one month to go before the first Monday in May, when the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art will come alive with the world’s biggest celebrities for the Met Gala, the year's biggest night in fashion.
The annual, invite-only event celebrates the opening of the Met’s Costume Institute’s famed rotating fashion exhibit, which dictates the extravagant dress code of the Gala. This year’s theme pays homage to the most stylish set of people to exist: Black people, under the theme Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, which zones in on the Black Dandy, the name given to the subset of the very well-dressed Black gentleman. The dress code: Tailored For You.
The Gala, put on by global fashion conglomerate Vogue, is chaired by a select few stylish individuals who personally practise the night’s fashions. This year’s chairs are actor Colman Domingo, race car driver Lewis Hamilton, rappers A$AP Rocky and Pharrell Williams, and Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour.
