Fresh excitement surrounded the recently held Caribbean Music Awards when it aired on the US entertainment network BET last Friday.
Jamaican music culture was among the night's biggest winners, with local artistes achieving a whopping collective total of 18 awards.
The number includes Dancehall vixen Shenseea, who copped 5 awards, including Female Dancehall Artist of the Year and Dancehall Album of the Year for her Grammy-nominated project Never Gets Late Here; reggae's Romain Virgo, who took home 3 awards, including Male Reggae Artist of the Year and Reggae Album of the Year for The Gentlemen; and Dancehall superstar Vybz Kartel, with Male Dancehall Artist of the Year and Music Event of the Year for Freedom Street.
Reggae artiste Lila Ike, for the third time running and almost in celebration of her freshly released album Treasure Self Love, received the award for Female Reggae Artist of the Year.
