According to Today.com, Pastor T.D. Jakes has revealed that the medical emergency he suffered last year was a massive heart attack.
In an exclusive TODAY interview, the 67-year-old pastor recalled collapsing while preaching at The Potter’s House in Dallas on Nov. 23, 2024. "I didn’t realise what was happening until I was in the hospital," he said. "The doctor told me, ‘You had a massive heart attack.’ Five minutes later, I would’ve been dead."
Videos flooded social media showing Jakes pausing, shaking, and lowering his microphone before church officials rushed to help him. He said he felt fine while preaching but collapsed after sitting down, revealing a severe heart blockage.
"It’s hard to watch the video," Jakes admitted. "In my mind, I was in a peaceful, cloud-like space—I was on my way out.
Surgeons operated while he was awake, and he credits prayers for his survival. He returned to the pulpit on New Year's Eve, saying, "They almost lost me twice, but I’m standing here today by God’s grace."
Now, he’s moving forward with new projects. "I’m older, I’m grateful, and I’ve got something to say," he said.
