Supreme Court Upholds $12M Highway Land Compensation Award

Share

The Supreme Court has upheld a $12-million compensation award to St Ann homeowners Morvick Hyde and Sheridene Drummond-Hyde for land acquired by the Government for the Highway 2000 Phase 2A project.

The couple sought a higher payout based on a valuation of about $16.48 million, but the court found their evidence inadmissible and unsupported.

Justice Kirk Anderson accepted the Commissioner of Lands’ valuation, which assessed the property at between $8 million and $8.5 million at the time of acquisition.

The court also rejected claims for legal fees and business losses, ruling that the final award represented fair compensation under the Land Acquisition Act.
