STEM Crisis Looms as Only 6,000 Students Qualify for Tertiary Education

Share

Jamaica is facing a growing STEM education crisis, with only about 6,000 of 30,000 CSEC students annually meeting the requirements for tertiary education.

UTech President Dr Kevin Brown says universities and teachers’ colleges are competing for a limited pool of qualified students, highlighting a serious pipeline issue.

He warned that thousands of young people are being left outside the formal education system, raising concerns for Jamaica’s future development.

Dr. Brown is calling for stronger focus on mathematics and STEM learning to build a more skilled, technology-driven workforce.
