Digital dancehall legends Steely and Clevie were celebrated at the Grammy Certificate Ceremony held Saturday at the Audi Showroom in Kingston, marking 40 years since they officially became a production duo.
The event, organized by London-based Back 2 Da Future Music Limited, recognized the contributions of artists, producers, musicians, and engineers to Grammy-winning and nominated albums.
Steely (who passed away in 2009) and Clevie received gold discs for producing Dawn Penn’s 1994 hit You Don’t Love Me (No, No, No), as well as Sean Paul and Sasha’s 2002 single I’m Still in Love With You.
Steely’s family also accepted certificates honoring his keyboard work and production on Grammy-winning albums by Sean Paul (Dutty Rock), Beenie Man (Art & Life), Bunny Wailer (Crucial! Roots Classics), and Shabba Ranks (X-tra Naked and As Raw As Ever).
In total, around 27 recipients received Grammy certificates sanctioned by the Recording Academy.
Honorees included saxophonist Dean Fraser, vocal group TOK, singers Romain Virgo, Chevelle Franklyn, Heather Cummings, and producers Christopher Birch and Computer Paul, among others.
