Reggae Sumfest 2025 drew what may have been the largest crowd in the festival’s history on Friday night, as fans from around the world gathered at Catherine Hall for the official crowning of Vybz Kartel as the King of Dancehall.
According to a press release issued by the organizers, the night was largely positive, with high-energy performances and strong support from local and international patrons. However, during the early hours of Saturday morning, a stampede occurred, resulting in injuries to several attendees.
Festival organizers say emergency response protocols were activated immediately, and medical teams on-site were able to stabilize the situation with support from local emergency services.
The release states that a full review is now underway in collaboration with law enforcement and security consultants. Additional safety measures and crowd control protocols will be implemented going forward.
Reggae Sumfest extended its concern to those affected and emphasized that the safety and wellbeing of patrons remain a top priority. Night Two of the festival is scheduled to continue tonight, with added precautions in place.
