In light of recent heavy rainfall in St. James, the parish’s Public Health Department says it will take several measures to prevent the breeding of mosquitoes.

Acting Chief Public Health Inspector for the parish, Sherika Lewis notes that floodwaters resulting from recent heavy rainfall will increase the number of mosquitoes and lead to a possible dengue outbreak.

Ms. Lewis says an assessment of known breeding sites in the parish will be done to see how best eradication exercises can be conducted.

She is also encouraging citizens to do what they can around their homes to prevent the breeding of mosquitoes.
