SPORTS MINISTRY COMMITS 12 MILLION DOLLARS TO NETBALL JAMAICA

Jamaica’s push to host the America’s Netball World Cup qualifiers later this year was made a bit easier. 

This after the ministry of sports committed 12 million dollars towards the budget of approximately 31 million to stage the tournament, which will be held at the National Indoors Sports between October 16-21, under the theme ‘catch di vibes’ .

The commitment was made by Minister of Sports Olivia Grange at this morning’s launch at the National Commercial Bank(NCB) wellness Center in Kingston.

Grange who was named patron of the tournament, underscored her commitment to assist , provided clarity on areas that the 12 million will help to cover. “ We will do everything in our powers to help Jamaica pull off this one, and the Government’s commitment is on show here this morning”. She added, “Part of the twelve million dollars will go towards taking care of transportation, meals and promotion.”

In the meantime, President of Netball Jamaica Trecia Robinson says the local Organizing Committee  stands ready to execute a successful tournament, “ Netball Jamaica is so proud and indeed grateful for the help of the mInister, in bringing up close to our target of 31 millions to execute this event, and we are confident we can make it happen.”

10 countries are expected to compete in the qualifiers, in which two countries will join the already qualified Jamaica to advance to the Netball World Cup next year in South Africa.

The other countries confirmed to compete include Antigua/Barbuda, Barbados, Cayman Islands, Grenada, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, and the USA.
