A wildfire near Madrid has grown beyond firefighters’ ability to contain after several blazes merged, forcing thousands to evacuate.
Spain has declared a national emergency as high temperatures, strong winds and spreading fire fronts worsen conditions.
More than 30,000 people have been evacuated in the Madrid region, while over 110,000 have fled wildfires in south-west France.
Authorities in both countries are using emergency teams and military support to battle the fast-moving fires.
