Some members of the Jamaica Association of Transport Owners and Operators, JATOO, stayed off the job today to further highlight their discontent with the Government’s decision, not to grant them a fare increase.

During his Sectoral Debate presentation last week, Transport Minister Robert Montague acknowledged taxi operators’ request for the fare increase, but said in examining the factors driving this call, there has to be balanced.

He also indicated a willingness, to meet with the Associations on how to increase transport operators’ income and reduce costs.

Taxi operators have been calling for a fare increase, citing high operational costs, and not having a fare increase for several years.

JATOO’s Vice President Everton Style says majority of JATOO operators have continued working, but there is a high level of discontent among the members.
