Following its corporate rebranding last week, Meta, formerly known as Facebook, has released a new ad that features a snippet of heavy dancehall.
The Facebook/Meta commercial takes place in a museum where a group of teenagers examines Henri Rousseau’s 1908 classic painting, “Fight between a Tiger and a Buffalo.” As the students look closer and closer, the creatures come alive.
The one-minute advertisement, which was released on Thursday, features King Jammy’s popular Sleng Teng Riddim in the last 12 seconds.
Sleng Teng is one of the first fully computerized riddims in Jamaican music. In 1984, the riddim created by King Jammy and Wayne Smith was titled “Under Mi Sleng Teng”, and is regarded as the iconic sound that brought reggae into the digital era.
