A few notable dancehall acts were nominated for the Music Of Black Origins, MOBO Awards.

Among the six nominees in the Best Reggae Act category are Spice, Shenseea, Popcaan, Sean Paul, Skillibeng and Lila Ike.

Buju Banton won for best reggae album last year with his ‘Upside Down project”.

Some fans seem irritated with MOBO’s choice as they believe the organizers don’t seem to know the difference between reggae and dancehall. They sure voiced their thoughts on Instagram!

A social media user said “How is this reggae when majority of the nominees are dancehall artist”, while another user said, “This should be separated, into two different categories. 1, should be Reggae & 2, should be Dancehall. It’s 2021, u can’t keep doing this, and rolling it all into one thing. it doesn’t make sense..”. Finally, another user asked, “How skillibeng a reggae artist…none of these guys are reggae artist this should be called best Jamaican artist.”

On the other hand, Lila did show her gratitude on MOBO’s Instagram “Thanks so much I am honored big up ALL other superstars.”

The Awards will take place on December 5, and will be its first live ceremony since 2017.
