What a Bam Bam, Sister Nancy is speaking out again.
The legendary singer sat down with Billboard to speak about her documentary "Bam Bam: The Story of Sister Nancy".
In the interview Sister Nancy explained that Jay-Z's hit single "Bam", which was released in 2017, was her favourite sample of her iconic track for a reason.
Speaking very frankly, the Dancehall legend stated, “The reality of him taking me with him to shoot the video in Jamaica was amazing. I really appreciated that. Everybody has sampled the song, but he chose to take me with him. Jay-Z is my No. 1. He did the right thing. Everybody else was cheap; they didn’t even think about me.”
The 67-year-old singer mentioned that she had just left her accounting job at a bank, which made the experience even more special.
The documentary shares her journey from being Jamaica's first female dancehall DJ to now being a global icon.
It explores the legal woes and a fight for her rights, which she was eventually compensated for.
Sister Nancy started her fight to reclaim her royalties in 2014, and despite the struggles she experienced, she is grateful, as the samples kept her music relevant and her career active.
