American former footballer Shannon Sharpe has broken his silence after ESPN officially announced it was ending its relationship with him!
The news came just days before he was set to induct his brother, Sterling Sharpe, into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, something he called a “dream come true.”
Sharpe addressed the situation on his Nightcap podcast, saying he had known for a while that he wouldn't be returning but had asked ESPN to delay the public announcement until after the weekend.
“I just wanted this week to be about my brother and our family,” Sharpe said. “I wish they had waited until Monday.”
Despite being disappointed, he thanked ESPN for the opportunity and said he appreciated the chance to bring his personality to the network.
The split follows a sexual assault lawsuit filed against Sharpe earlier this year. Leaked audio and public scrutiny led to his removal from all ESPN programming. The case was recently settled out of court, with both sides calling the relationship “long-term and tumultuous.”
Sharpe has paused his national Nightcap tour but continues to run his own podcast, "Club Shay Shay." It’s unclear if he’ll return to mainstream sports media, but for now, his focus is on family.
