Grammy Award winner Orville Burrell, better known as Shaggy, is set to receive an honorary doctorate in recognition of his immeasurable contribution to reggae and dancehall music.
Shaggy will be one of nine recipients who will receive a Doctor of Fine Arts degree from Brown University during the Undergraduate Class of 2020’s Commencement Ceremony, which is being held on May 27th for students who missed their in-person Commencement experience due to the pandemic.
The University described Shaggy as “not only a pioneering songwriter”, but one who has “used his platform to strengthen his community and homeland”.
