After months of legal back-and-forth, Dancehall producer Shab Don has been cleared of corruption charges.
The ruling was handed down Monday in the Kingston and St. Andrew Parish Court, where the judge determined that the prosecution’s evidence was not strong enough to secure a conviction.
Shab Don, whose given name is Linval Thompson, had been accused of offering a JMD $2 million bribe to a police officer in October 2021.
Prosecutors alleged the payment was meant to have an illegal firearm removed from his Mercedes-Benz ahead of a planned search. However, presiding judge Alwayne Smith found inconsistencies in the testimony that created reasonable doubt.
Known for his hybrid trap-dancehall sound, Shab Don has produced hits, including World Government by Vybz Kartel, as well as “Any Weather” on the G6ixx riddim. He has also worked with dancehall artistes Teejay and Squash.
