Senior attorney-at-law Anthony Williams, is to lead the defence, at the trial of 37-year-old Andre Ruddock, who is accused of killing a woman, during a cult-like ritual at a church, on October 17.
The incident took place at the Pathways International Kingdom Restoration Ministries, in Montego-Bay, St. James.
Williams who has appeared in several high profile cases, said he was asked to represent Ruddock, and has agreed to do so.
Ruddock who is charged with murder and wounding with intent, appeared in the home circuit court last week.
He told the court that he could not afford a lawyer and requested legal aid.
Attorney-at-law Venice Brown, who was in court, made a request to represent him and the judge granted permission.
The judge said, she would request a senior lawyer to partner with brown at the trial.
Ruddock who is in custody is to return to court on Wednesday.
39 year old Taneka Gardner and 38 year old Michael Brown were killed during what was described as a sacrificial cult worship.
The leader of the church Dr Kevin Smith was charged posthumously with murder and other offences.
Smith died in a motorcar crash in Linstead, St Catherine on October 25, while being transported by the police from Montego bay to Kingston to be charged.
Twenty-six-year-old police Constable Orlando Irons also died in the accident.
