The Ministry of Education has informed that effective Monday, October 27, all schools will be closed until further notice.

This decision has been made in response to the forecast and impending impact of Hurricane Melissa. In a release the Ministry says its top priority remains the safety and well-being of students, staff, and communities.

Also, a new deadline will be communicated for the payment of fees for external exams.

During this uncertain time, the education ministry is encouraging the school community to take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.

The latest bulletin from the metrological service of Jamaica indicates that life-threatening storm surge, accompanied by large and destructive waves, is likely along the south coast of
Jamaica late Monday through Tuesday morning and could reach 9 to 13 feet above ground level, near and to the east of where the centre of Melissa makes landfall.

The Meteorological Service says it continues to closely monitor the progress of Hurricane Melissa, and all interests are encouraged to pay special attention to further releases.
