School Term Starts September 1, Pauses September 3 for General Election

The Ministry of Education has confirmed that the upcoming school year will begin on Monday, September 1. However, classes will be temporarily suspended on Wednesday, September 3, to accommodate the general election.

According to a statement released on Monday, schools designated as polling stations will close at noon on Tuesday, September 2, to facilitate election preparations.

All schools will remain closed on election day, Wednesday, September 3.

Classes are set to resume on Thursday, September 4, with a mix of teaching methods.

Full, in-person classes will restart on Friday, September 5.

The Ministry emphasized that this schedule was created in collaboration with key stakeholders, including the Jamaica Teachers’ Association, the National Parent Teacher Association of Jamaica, and the Electoral Office of Jamaica.
