Cocoa Tea, the legend behind reggae hits such as 'Rocking Dolly,' 'Weh Dem A Go Do,' 'Holy Mount Zion,' 'Tune In,' and 'Rikers Island,' passed away this morning.
The singer-songwriter had reportedly been diagnosed with lymphoma in 2019 and had been battling pneumonia for 6 months when he suffered from a fatal heart attack at a hospital in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, his wife Malvia Scott confirmed to the media. He was 65. Sharing condolences are Prime Minister Andrew Holness and Minister of Entertainment and Culture Olivia Grange. The statements from the politi-cians spoke of their sadness at Cocoa Tea’s passing and reminisced about his generosity, worldwide cultural championing, and contributions to Jamai-can music. In recent years, Cocoa Tea famously introduced Grammy-winner Koffee to the world at her premier performance on the 2018 Rebel Salute stage. Cocoa Tea is survived by his wife and 8 children.
