Jamaica's music industry across the fraternity was rocked late Thursday night with the news of the passing of legendary singer Ernie Smith at a hospital in Florida.
His wife, Claudette Bailey-Smith, confirmed the sad news with local media.
The beloved reggae singer had undergone surgery on Sunday, after experiencing health challenges since June last year.
Ernie Smith's prolific music career spanned the late 1960's and 1970's, finding hits in 'Bend Down', Pitta Patta, Duppy or Gunman and Life is Just For Living. The year 1973 saw him awarded the Badge of Honour for Meritorious Service in the Field of Music by local government in recognition of his contribution to Jamaica’s cultural heritage.
