R&B mogul, R. Kelly was taken to the hospital for two days after he overdosed on medication. He is alleging that it was given to him by prison staff.
According to reports from People Magazine, the incident happened on June 13 while he was in solitary confinement at FCI Butner in North Carolina.
According to a court filing, prison staff gave the "Ignition" singer a dangerously high dose of medication.
The singer's lawyer, Beau Brindley, says Kelly later collapsed in his cell and lost consciousness. Doctors also found blood clots in his legs and lungs, but Brindley claims prison officials refused to allow surgery that could save his life.
The filing also includes a statement from another inmate, Mikeal Glenn Stine, who says prison staff asked him to help kill Kelly before they were transferred to the same prison. Stine has a long history of filing lawsuits and was once convicted of threatening federal officials.
Prosecutors deny the claims and say solitary confinement was meant to protect Kelly. They also describe him as a “serial child molester” who has never taken responsibility for his crimes.
Kelly is currently serving a 30-year sentence. His lawyer says he’s now asking for a presidential pardon. No hearing date has been set for the emergency motion.
