Probe Intensifies as MOCA to Take UHWI Staff Statements Over $20M Procurement Breaches

MOCA is set to receive statements from UHWI staff this week as the probe into procurement breaches at the hospital intensifies.

Acting CEO Eric Hosin told Parliament that police, MOCA, and the Integrity Commission are all investigating misuse of the hospital’s tax-exempt status.

The practice allowed at least four private companies to import goods duty-free, costing Jamaica Customs over $20 million.

Auditors also found UHWI sometimes repurchased those items at inflated prices, deepening concerns about governance failures.

Hosin said the hospital has ended the arrangements and is cooperating fully as authorities seek to recover losses.
