Prime Minister, DSE Pay Tribute To Robert Russell

Downsound Entertainment has paid tribute to co founder of Reggae Sumfest, Robert Russell.

In a statement posted to the social media accounts, the entertainment label, noted that "Robert’s visionary leadership and unwavering passion helped shape many things, including the Reggae Sumfest brand... leaving an indelible mark on reggae music, the entertainment fraternity, Jamaica's tourism sector and our culture as a whole."

Downsound Entertainment stated that "The void Russell leaves behind is immeasurable and irreplaceable, noting that 'Russell's "Reggae Sumfest & DSE family are undoubtedly better because of his remarkable contributions."

Russell died Tuesday (December 11) after battling illness for several months.

He was 76 years old.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Andrew Holness expressed sadness at the passing of Robert Russell

He wrote: "Robert was a true cultural trailblazer and distinguished businessman from Montego Bay.

Robert’s vision and dedication to Jamaica’s music and heritage were exemplified through his founding of Reggae Sumfest and his stewardship of Pier One, both of which became iconic pillars of our culture.

The Prime minister noted that "Russell's impact on the lives of many and his invaluable contributions to promoting Brand Jamaica on the global stage will forever be remembered."
