Prime Minister Andrew Holness has sought to defend the government‘s decision to declare the Montego Bay Perimeter Road a national development project, following concerns by the Opposition.

In Parliament yesterday, Opposition Spokesman on Finance Julian Robinson questioned the rationale behind selecting circumventing procurement rules for the project.

Other areas of concern include, sub contracting being done in a transparent manner, Jamaicans being excluded from the project, and proper monitoring.

In response, the Prime Minister pointed out that local contractors will benefit.
