Prime Minister Andrew Holness has defended his decision to keep Dr. Horace Chang as National Security Minister, despite the crime wave facing the country.

Since the start of the year, Jamaica has recorded over 50 murders.

He said a change in leadership will not guarantee a sudden change in the current situation, noting that the problems are deep-rooted.

The Prime Minister’s defence of his Security minister came as he declared Zone of Special Operations (ZOSO) in sections of Westmoreland.

Prime Minister Holness made the declaration at a press briefing yesterday morning.

Mr Holness said the ZOSO includes the communities of Russia, Dalling Street and Dexter Street.

Mr Holness stated that the 60-day ZOSO is necessary, as gangs have been wreaking havoc in the communities.
