Prime Minister Dr Andrew Holness announced that part of the $1.4 billion in hurricane recovery donations will be used to restock the JDF and ODPEM with emergency building supplies depleted after Hurricane Melissa.
Speaking during a Labour Day visit in St Elizabeth, Dr.Holness said the funds will support roofing repairs, modular housing projects, and a new community in Westmoreland for displaced residents.
He defended the Government’s management of the donations, stressing that spending was carefully monitored to ensure transparency, accountability, and proper tracking of materials.
Mr. Holness also dismissed claims of stolen relief supplies, explaining that issues raised by the auditor general were linked to administrative and logistical challenges during late-night deliveries.
