The Police High Command has expressed sincere condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of a Police Sergeant who died as a result of injuries he received in a motor vehicle accident on Coopers Pen main road, Falmouth, Trelawny yesterday.

The Officer has been identified as 49-year-old Marlon Smith assigned to the Protective Services Division.

Reports are that about 5:40 p.m., Sergeant Smith was driving a Suzuki Vitara motor car piloting a convoy with the Minister of Finance Dr. Nigel Clarke along the Coopers Pen main road, heading in a westerly direction.

On reaching a section of the roadway, he collided with a Honda CRV motor car and a motor truck. The Suzuki Vitara motor car was reportedly forced off the road and then burst into flames.

The Police were alerted and all three drivers of the motor vehicles were transported to hospital, where Sergeant Smith was pronounced dead and the other drivers were treated and released.

The Force’s Chaplaincy and Welfare Units said they are providing support to the family members and colleagues of Sergeant Smith.
