The Jamaica Constabulary Force JCF, has announced that it expects to receive 1,000 new body-worn cameras in the coming weeks.

According to the Police High Command, the procurement process for the devices has been completed, with contracts now finalized with the supplier ahead of delivery.

This development comes amid growing calls for greater use of body-worn cameras, particularly during planned police operations, to provide transparency in incidents involving fatalities or complaints against officers.

Both the Independent Commission of Investigations INDECOM and the human rights lobby group Jamaicans for Justice JFJ, have previously criticized the limited deployment of these devices in fatal shooting cases.

The High Command highlighted that the upcoming acquisition, represents the largest single procurement of body-worn cameras in the JCF’s history.
