The police have announced a series of traffic adjustments set to take place across parts of the Corporate Area this Sunday to accommodate major events being held by the country’s two leading political parties.
The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) is scheduled to host a public meeting in Half-Way-Tree, while the People's National Party (PNP) will stage its gathering in the Cross Roads area.
According to the police, the traffic restrictions will be enforced starting at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 10, and will remain in effect until midnight on Monday, August 11.
Several roads will be partially or fully closed to vehicular traffic, and motorists are being advised to use alternate routes where necessary. The police have provided recommended detours to assist with the flow of traffic during the events.
Traffic changes for JLP public meeting in Half Way Tree:
1. Motorists travelling along Constant Spring Road towards downtown will not be able to
drive towards HWT once they reach the intersection of Constant Spring Road/South
Avenue.
Alternate route - Motorists may turn left on to South Avenue, right on to Waterloo Road, across
Trafalgar Road to Holborn Road, Knutsford Blvd, Lady Musgrave Road, Old Hope Road, Oxford
Road, HWT Road, and other areas. Or motorists may turn right on South Avenue, across
Burlington Avenue, left on Sandringham Avenue, left on to Molynes Road, right on Woodglen
Avenue and right on Hagley Park Road. From there, Richmond Park, Maxfield Avenue,
Lyndhurst Road, Retirement Road and other areas may be accessed.
2. Motorists travelling along Molynes Road towards HWT will only be able to turn left on to
Eastwood Park Road. Motorists will not be able to access South Odeon Avenue or
Courtney Walsh Drive
Additionally, JUTC buses that terminate in the Transport Centre at HWT will be allowed to do so
during the time of the public meeting.
Buses that use the Lay-by at Mandela Park will be allowed to turn left onto Suthermere Avenue
off Constant Spring Road, right on Parish Place and right on Hope Road, where they will be
allowed to stop in the left lane in the vicinity of Clock Tower on Saturday, 9 August. On Sunday,
10, these buses will have to turn left on South Avenue, right on Waterloo Road, right on Hope
Road, left on Winchester Road, right on Ruthven Road and left on HWT Road. JUTC buses
coming through Cross Roads will be able to access the terminal.
Alternate route – North along Eastwood Park Road, right on Red Hills Road, right on Constant
Spring Road and left on South Avenue, right on Waterloo Road and across to Trafalgar Road.
3. Motorists traveling along Hagley Park Road towards HWT can only turn left on to
Eastwood Park Road and proceed northerly towards Constant Spring. Motorists will not be
able to turn right on South Odeon Avenue nor right on Courtney Walsh Drive.
Alternate route – North along Eastwood Park Road, right on Red Hills Road, right on Constant
Spring Road and left on South Avenue, right on Waterloo Road and across to Trafalgar Road.
3. Motorists traveling along Hagley Park Road towards HWT can only turn left on to
Eastwood Park Road and proceed northerly towards Constant Spring. Motorists will not be
able to turn right on South Odeon Avenue nor right on Courtney Walsh Drive.
Alternate route – North along Eastwood Park Road, right on Red Hills Road, right on Constant
Spring Road and left on South Avenue, right on Waterloo Road and across to Trafalgar Road.
4. Motorists travelling along HWT Road towards HWT Square will be able to drive northerly
on Maxfield Avenue, on to Eastwood Park Road and on to Constant Spring Road.
Alternate route – Turn right from HWT Road on to Oxford Road, left on Knutsford Blvd, left on
Trafalgar Road, straight on to Waterloo Road, left on to West Kings House Road and right on to
Constant Spring Road.
5. Motorists travelling along Hope Road towards Hagley Park Road will not be able to pass
the intersection of Hope Road/Winchester Road/Surbiton Road towards HWT Square.
Alternate route – Turn left on Winchester Road, right on Ruthven Road, left on HWT Road,
right on Balmoral Avenue, right on Maxfield Avenue, left on Hagley Park Road or straight across
to Eastwood Park Road.
Parking
Persons attending the public meeting at HWT Square will be able to park in the following areas:
a. Along Constant Spring Road between South Avenue and Courtney Walsh Drive. Parking
will be accommodated on the extreme lane to the western side only. No vehicles will be
allowed beyond Constant Spring Road/ Courtney Walsh Drive.
b. Along HWT Road between Cargill Avenue and Holy Childhood High School. No vehicles
will be allowed beyond Holy Childhood.
No parking will be allowed on Hope Road, Hagley Park Road, Molynes Road and Eastwood Park
Road. Persons parking in these areas must do so beyond or off the roadway.
Traffic changes for PNP public meeting in Cross Roads:
1. Motorists travelling along HWT Road towards Downtown via Crossroads will not be able
to pass Retirement Road.
Alternate route - Motorists will have to turn right on Retirement Road, left on Studio One Blvd
and access Slipe Road.
2. Motorists travelling from Downtown towards HWT Road using Orange Street will not be
able to continue towards Crossroads when they reach Torrington Bridge.
Alternate route – Motorists will have to turn left at Torrington Bridge, right on Slipe Pen Road,
left on Studio One Blvd, right on Retirement Road and left on HWT Road.
Or motorists may turn right towards West Heroes Circle, left to North Heroes and left on Marescaux
Road.
3. Motorists travelling along Old Hope Road towards Crossroads will not be able to pass the
intersection of Old Hope and Eureka Road.
Alternate route – Motorists heading towards Downtown will have to turn left on to Tom Redcam
Road, then left on Camp Road through to South Camp Road, Right on East Queen Street towards
East Parade. Where motorists travel towards the intersection of Old Hope Road/Eureka Road, they
will have to turn right on to Eureka Road, left on HWT Road, right on Retirement Road, left on
Studio One Blvd through to Slipe Pen Road, left on to Orange Street, left on to King Street and
into North Parade.
4. Motorists travelling along Marescaux Road towards Crossroads will not access Crossroads
at Caledonia Crescent.
Parking
Persons attending the public meeting will be able to park in the following areas:
a. Along Slipe Road south of Courts. No vehicles will be allowed to pass that point towards
Crossroads Square.
b. Along Studio One Blvd on the left lane to the western side of the road only.
c. Along Caledonia Crescent in the left lane facing north. No vehicles will be allowed to park
in the area leading through Caledonia Avenue towards Slipe Road.
d. Along off roads/areas leading from HWT Road north of HWT/Retirement Road.
Absolutely no parking will be allowed on HWT Road.
e. Within plazas and off roads along Old Hope Road east of Old Hope Road/Eureka Avenue.
Absolutely no parking will be allowed on Old Hope Road.
Motorists are being ask to obey the directives of the officers that will be on location.
