POLICE AND MILITARY PERSONNEL DEPLOYED TO SPANISH TOWN FOLLOWING FLARE UP OF GANG VIOLENCE

Scores of police and military personnel have been deployed to Spanish Town, in St. Catherine following a flare up of gang violence in the old capital, yesterday (Tues).

A 48 hour curfew was imposed in sections of Spanish Town, following a shoot out between alleged gang members, yesterday.

5 people including a woman were wounded during the incident.

Two of them, both males, later succumbed.

One of the deceased men has been identified as Kemar Kelly otherwise called ‘Mackerel’, of Prince Avenue in the parish.

The other man remains unidentified – he is of a brown complexion, slim build, about 5 feet 11 inches long and appears to be about 25 years old.

According to the police at about 2:45 p.m gunmen opened fire at a group of people on Cumberland Road in Spanish Town.

Kelly and the unidentified man were among 5 people who were shot.

They were taken to hospital where Kelly and the man were pronounced dead.

About fifteen minutes later, an unidentified man was fatally shot during a confrontation with the police at the intersection of French and William streets.

Meanwhile, the police are urging citizens to remain calm and to report any suspicious activity in their communities.
